Larisa G. Fechina is the Head of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Center in Ural, Honored Doctor, (удалить)Dr. Fechina was born on February 7th of 1960 in a family of doctors in Chelyabinsk where her parents were assigned after graduating the Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute.
In 1967 her family moved to Sverdlovsk. In 1977 Dr. Fechina graduated from the English School 2.
In 1977-1984 Dr. Fechina studied medicine at the Pediatric Faculty of the Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute.
After graduation Dr. Fechina completed residency in infectious diseases in children at the Sverdlovsk City Children’s Infectious Diseases Hospital №39. In August of 1985 she started working at the Hematology Department of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital №1. The first few years were hard: only 15% of children survived, there weren’t enough doctors and nurses.
In Autumn of 1987 she was elected a teaching assistant at the Department of Childhood Diseases of the Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute. While working there, Dr. Fechina continued practicing medicine at the Hematology Department. She picked future doctors for the Oncology and Hematology Center of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital №1 from her best students.
In 1991 collaboration with the best foreign specialists in pediatric oncology and hematology was established. With the help of German charity CARE-Deutschland, Russian fund “Mercy and Health” and a famous pediatric oncologist from Germany professor Lampert who organized fundraising during the Tour Piper bike ride, the Hematology Department of the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital # 1 was reequipped, and the staff received additional training.
In May of 1993 a decision was made to build the first in Ural Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Center, and Dr. Fechina became its first director.
Since May of 2006 Dr. Fechina works as a deputy chief doctor for oncology and hematology at the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital №1.
Dr. Fechina is President Putin’s authorized representative and national founder of the All-Russia People’s Front.
In April of 2015 Dr. Fechina was elected to the State Duma.
Dr. Fechina actively participates in scientific research.
Since May of 2006 Dr. Fechina heads the Department of Cell Therapy of Oncohematological Diseases at the Institute of Medical Cell Technologies.
Dr. Fechina has published more than 150 works. Together with her younger colleagues she regularly presents her research at Russian and international conferences dedicated to pediatric oncology.
In 2003 Dr. Fechina defended her PhD thesis at the Federal Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology.
Dr. Fechina is an Honored Doctor, Chief Pediatric Oncologist of the Sverdlovsk Region, member of the National Medical Board of the Russian Federation, the National Society of Pediatric Oncologists and Hematologists, the American Society of Hematologists, the European Society of Hematologists.
On June 16th of 2009 Dr. Fechina received the “True Calling” National Award and the “Best Doctors of Russia” diploma from the Ministry of Health for creation of a new treatment method. Dr. Fechina was recognized for development of treatment protocol for leukemia in infants which is Russia’s Top Priority.
In June of 2011 Dr. Fechina received the honorary title of Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation from President D.A. Medvedev at his residence.
